About Split Cane Blanks

I have be an avid fly fisherman and outdoors man most of my life, and have spent most of my leisure time chasing trout around with a fly rod in my hand..

For the last 25 years, I have built many fly rods, graphite and fiberglass always trying the latest and greatest blanks in search of the perfect fly rod, but until I started making my own cane fly rods I never experienced the type of indescribable feel that you get from casting a split bamboo fly rod.

In the last century many famous cane rod makers have designed and perfected there signature tapers in which there business was built upon.

Companies such as Granger, Headon, Phillipson, Leonard, Payne and Paul Young to name just a few,

Some of these and other tapers, I have included as classic tapers list for which a customer can chose along with some modern tapers from rod makers still making rods today.

The process of making split cane rod blanks is very labor intensive and done in the most part with hand tools.

It involves flaming, splitting and planing small strips of Tonkin cane carefully preparing nods gluing binding, finishing the blanks and also ferruling and fitting, all this work is done by me "so you don't have to."
